The bar docket caseload of the county court comprises attorney discipline and administrative matters affecting members of the bar of the Commonwealth. The bar docket's administrative matters may include the appointment of a commissioner pursuant to Supreme Judicial Court Rule 4:01, § 14, in the event of an attorney's death or disappearance, transfer of an attorney to disability inactive status pursuant to Supreme Judicial Court Rule 4:01, § 13(1) or (2), and the enforcement of a subpoena in connection with investigative proceedings before the Board of Bar Overseers. Supreme Judicial Court Rule 4:01
grants the county court jurisdiction over bar discipline matters involving
"any lawyer admitted to or engage in, the practice of law "in the
Commonwealth and empowers the Board of Bar Overseers with the responsibility to
investigate and prosecute such matters.
Effective April 1, 2009, all bar discipline cases entered in the Supreme Judicial Court for Suffolk County (single justice) shall be governed by the standing order adopted on March 4, 2009.
